In the last 8 months, the U.S. government spent $1,000,000,000,000 more than it received in revenue. In a country of 300,000,000 people, that works out to $3,333 per person.
YOU spent that! What the heck were you thinking?
Whether you are a Bush Republican or an Obama Democrat, this is YOUR fault!
Actually, fault is irrelevant, since even the newborns in this country owe this money. They just don't know it yet.
But here is the real question: What did we get for that money? Think about it: $3,000+ will buy a lot of neat stuff.
For example, within the price range of $3-3,333, you could:
-buy one of 1,046 artworks available for immediate sale on eBay.
-put a nice downpayment on a small car.
-buy two(!) Vizio 55" LCD HDTV's from Walmart.
-leave tomorrow for Rome, and come back on July 2nd...with your spouse...stay at a nice hotel near the Colusseum. This includes flight, hotel, and rental car.
I know I'm being frivolous, since it is much more important to bailout banks and failing auto companies. We wouldn't want these people to join the other 9.4% of unemployed Americans. Of course, considering the unemployment rate WAS 6.2% eight months ago, one has to wonder how much these bailouts are really helping. Although I am sure Obama or Bush would probably say something about all the jobs that they have saved, but there sure are a lot of jobs for which they didn't do diddly squat.
Personally, I want my money back.

Still thinking "military coup."

* I mean, Ed... seriously... it's bound to happen when the country really starts tearing itself to hell starting as soon as sometime in the next decade but definitely by the 2030's, 2040's top. Why not skip to saving the country NOW while there's still a chance of reversing course under firm competent patriotic leadership?
Actually, wait a few years until Obama completely bankrupts the country. Then we can just walk away, since he won't be able to afford to use the military. ;)
You know, Ed... seriously... you're a fair historian - I know this.
Let me ask you...
Why must we always repeat the mistakes of the past?
I mean... do you think back in the 1890's prior to the Boar War that within 60 years the British Empire would be pretty much kaput, a second class poor relation to the U.S.?
As the Roman Empire was collapsing... can you not look into the period PRIOR to the collapse and identify the precursors to that collapse?
Even the Soviet Union... in hindsight (and for some of us foresight, having faith in Reagan's vision and means employed) you could see the rot even from the vantage point of '79 when with Carter in office here it looked like the USSR was actually growing in relative strength.
My point?
Yeah... sometimes I'm going for the wiseass laugh. But in terms of the future I see for this country and our children and grandchildren...
(*SIGH*)
Ed. I'm dead serious. We're in a steep decline and even when the present crisis starts to "correct" itself the long term trend is still going to be downward.
If there was a true leader for folks like us - a true national leader who asked millions of folks like us to come to Washington on a specific day to vent our rage and disgust and demand change... I'd go. How'bout you?
Ed... there's blog debate... there's theory... but there's your kids to think of - your grandkids one day to think of.
These bastards in Washington and in far too many state capitals are laying the seeds for the destruction of all we love about America.
It's not a frigg'n joke, Ed.
Anyway... (*SIGH*)... just ranting.

***CORRECTION***
"..do you think back in the 1890's prior to the Boar War THE AVERAGE CITIZEN OF THE EMPIRE believed..."
My point: Ed... we can SEE the future. And it's not pretty.
Again... what do we owe our children... our grandchildren?
Jeez... our forefathers REVOLTED, engaged in REVOLUTION... CREATED this once great nation out of anger against policies that pale in comparison to the attacks on our freedoms constantly waged by Washington DC nowadays.

Truth be told, this country needs a major shakeup, if not a breakup. I don't see anything to be gained by "working things out" with the northeastern liberal establishment. They have abandoned all the principles this nation once stood for.
As long as we keep looking for a "political" solution, we will keep moving in the direction of socialism and/or fascism.
Until a majority of American voters get fed up with the Republicrats/Democans we have in office, nothing will change.
